The Long Way Home
Merry Christmas! Not everyone finds this to be a happy time of year. I thought it was fitting to share on a day like today - so this song is one that came out of my own season of pain. Hoping that it encourages you no matter what you face today - even if it’s the long way home, you’re still on your way there.
2017 was not the year I anticipated it to be. Health failed, chronic pain became my companion and the battle to simply survive each day was all too real.
If you’ve ever gone through constant chronic pain, then you understand the dull numbing that it does to your spirit. You wish for anything that your circumstances could be lifted. Some days you just feel like giving up.
And out of those circumstances, this song was born.
Even in the darkest days, singing this song continued to lift my eyes beyond my present circumstance. We all need to remember that the darkness of the night eventually will be shattered as the morning sun crests the horizon. Even if you feel like your dark night is only beginning, hang in there and hold on to hope!!
God wastes nothing. When the easy way seems lost, he still guides your feet to lead you the long way home.
THE LONG WAY HOME
by Mark Alan Schoolmeesters
This is the road that I must travel
This the path that I need to walk
There’s pain in the journey
There’s ache in the healing
But don’t mistake the pain for loss
When everything’s undone
And pain becomes my song
The long way home
The long way home
When I feel like giving up
Help me stand and carry on
The long way home
The long way home
When the easy way is lost
Guide my feet at any cost
The long way home
This is the load that I must carry
This is now my chosen lot
I don’t understand it
I can’t seem to like it
But the only hope I have is trust
when everything goes wrong
And pain becomes my song
